Wine has been made in Florida for hundreds of years, starting around a century before pilgrims even landed on Plymouth Rock. Upon the founding of Florida by Spanish explorers, grapes were discovered along the state’s eastern coast. These Spanish settlers harvested the grapes and produced the first of Florida’s wine, making for an extremely rich history of winemaking. Florida is especially known for its Muscadine grapes, as they grow well in Florida’s climate and the wines these grapes produce are very popular.
