Since its establishment in 1847,Stone Hill Winery was once the nation’s second largest winery up to thecatastrophic times of Prohibition. In 1965 the Held family purchased the wineryand has grown it into a winery producing over 200,000 gallons a year with morethan 3,400 medals since 1993. Stone Hill Winery has evolved into a world-classwinery. Today, perched dramatically on ahill overlooking the beautiful German town of Hermann, Stone Hill Winery is oneof the most popular tourist attractions in Missouri River Valley Wine Country.Each year Stone Hill welcomes thousands of visitors who enjoy not only theaward-winning wines and juices but also the region’s Old-World hospitality andsurrounding beauty. The winery is listed on the NationalHistoric Register and visitors are invited to take a guided tour of thewinery’s cavernous arched underground cellars before settling in for a winetasting in one of three historic tasting rooms. No visit to Stone Hill iscomplete, however, without browsing through the winery’s spacious wine and giftshop. A beauty to behold, this magnificent showcase displays qualitywine-related items and souvenirs from antique furnishings handsomely arrangedthroughout the 3,000-square-feet structure.
